Privacy policy
SonicMate does not collect your data. There is no server of ours, no tracking, no analytics and no advertising.
Effective 27 August 2026 · version 1.0
What SonicMate is
SonicMate is an app for iPhone and Apple Watch that plays music hosted on a Navidrome or Subsonic-compatible server that you choose and run yourself. The app is simply a client: it does not host, distribute or supply any musical content.
The developer operates no server on your behalf and has no access to the server you connect to.
What we do not collect
- No personal data is collected or transmitted to the developer
- No analytics, usage statistics or telemetry
- No cross-app or cross-site tracking, no advertising identifier
- No advertising and no third-party components that collect data
- No access to your location, contacts, photos, microphone or calendar
- No account to create with us
Consistent with the above, the app's App Store listing declares “Data Not Collected”.
Data kept on your device
To work, SonicMate stores some information locally only, in the app's private data area protected by the sandboxing iOS provides:
- Server credentials: the address, username, password and session tokens for your Navidrome account, needed to stay signed in
- Downloaded tracks: the audio files you choose to download for offline listening
- Preferences and state: cached playlists, favourite tracks, language and playback settings
None of this ever leaves your device to reach us. It is removed when you sign out from the app's settings, or when you delete SonicMate.
Network connections
SonicMate communicates only with the server you configured. It contacts no service belonging to the developer and no third-party service.
The data exchanged with your server — authentication, library listings, the audio stream, cover art — travels directly between your device and that server. How that data is handled is governed by whoever administers the server: if the server is yours, that's you.
If the server sits on your home network, iOS asks for local network permission: it is used solely to reach that server and for no other purpose.
Apple Watch
If you use the Apple Watch app, your server credentials and playback state are sent from the iPhone to the paired Watch through WatchConnectivity, Apple's technology for direct communication between the two devices. The exchange happens between your own devices and does not pass through us.
Demo mode
Demo mode shows a sample library with fictional content and plays a short demonstration track bundled inside the app. In this mode no network connection is made and no account is required.
Children
SonicMate is not directed at children specifically, and does not knowingly collect data from any user, children included. The content played comes from the library on the server the user configures.
Your rights
Because we neither collect nor store personal data, there are no records held by us against which rights of access, rectification or erasure could be exercised.
- GDPR (European Union): the developer processes no personal data of users and does not act as data controller for the content held on your server.
- CCPA (California): we do not collect, share or sell personal information.
For the data held on the server you connect to, the point of contact is whoever administers that server.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the effective date shown above is updated and the current version always remains available at this address. Substantial changes will be noted in the app's release notes.
