SonicMate is a music player for iPhone and Apple Watch that streams the library hosted on your own Navidrome server, or on any Subsonic-compatible server.
SonicMate does not provide music. It is a client: to use it you need your own Navidrome or Subsonic server holding your music library. If you don't have one, you can still explore the app in demo mode.
Compatible servers
SonicMate works with any music server that speaks the Subsonic API:
- Navidrome — the most widely used, free and open-source. Download it from navidrome.org and install it on a computer, a NAS or a private server.
- Any other server compatible with the Subsonic or OpenSubsonic API.
You install and run the server yourself: SonicMate does not provide or sell one, and hosts no music.
Getting started
On the sign-in screen, enter your server address along with the username and password of your Navidrome account, then tap Sign in.
Type the address in full, including the protocol — for example https://music.yourdomain.com, or http://192.168.1.50:4533 if the server sits on your home network.
If you just want to look around without a server, tap Try the demo: it opens a sample library with a short demo track bundled inside the app.
Frequently asked questions
- The app can't connect to my server
- Check these in order: the address includes
http://orhttps://; the server is reachable from your phone (try opening the same address in Safari); the username and password are correct. If the server is on your local network, iOS asks for local network permission on the first attempt — you need to grant it. - Why does iOS ask for local network access?
- Because many Navidrome servers are self-hosted at home. Without that permission the app cannot reach a server on your own network. If your server is on the public internet, the permission isn't needed.
- Can I listen offline?
- Yes. Download tracks using the download icon on an album page, or from a track's context menu. Downloaded tracks appear under the Downloads tab and play with no network connection.
- How does the Apple Watch app work?
- The Watch app acts as a remote control for your iPhone: it shows what's playing and offers play, pause, next and previous. The Digital Crown adjusts the volume. Your iPhone needs to be on and paired.
- Playback stops when I lock the screen
- It shouldn't: audio keeps playing in the background and the controls stay available on the Lock Screen. If it does stop, check that background activity hasn't been restricted for SonicMate in your iOS settings.
- How do I sign out or delete my data?
- Open Settings inside the app and sign out — this removes your stored credentials and data from the device. Deleting the app removes everything, downloaded tracks included.
- Does SonicMate collect data about me?
- No. Nothing is collected, tracked or sent to the developer. The details are in the privacy policy.
